The 2009 Sumatra earthquakes occurred just off the southern coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. The major shock hit at 17:16:10 local time on September 30 2009 and had a moment magnitude of 7.9. The epicenter was 45 kilometres (28 mi) west-northwest of Padang, Sumatra, and 220 kilometres southwest of Pekanbaru, Sumatra. Death-toll estimates extend beyond 1300, with thousands more trapped in collapsed buildings and under landslides.Government reports confirmed 608 deaths in West Sumatra province. Singapore SCDFteam has been sent overhelping to search for villagers who are still stuck under the broken buildings. And just today, they are safe coming back home. They are our unsung heroes. Their bravery makes us proud. We can't predict when disasters are coming,which disaster are coming. Yes,we are fortunate enough Singapore is such a safe country. It is situated near the equator.
